

Mathias Zintler advises clients on the full spectrum of intellectual property and copyright law, with particular expertise in trademarks, designs, patents, unfair competition, technology transfer and biotechnology. He represents a number of leading international technology companies, particularly in social media and artificial intelligence. Mathias also advises globally recognised consumer and luxury brands on international product launches, marketing strategies, advertising campaigns and brand protection.
Mathias’s main strength lies in providing practical, commercially focused advice to help his clients protect, commercialize, and enforce their intellectual property rights in rapidly evolving markets.
Prior to co-founding KNPZ, Mathias worked for many years as an attorney at the international law firm Freshfields. He studied law at the universities of Hamburg, Lausanne, Panthéon-Sorbonne, and Paris-Assas. As part of a master’s program at King’s College London, he completed a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in the area of intellectual property. He published his PhD thesis at the University of Hamburg on the patentability of biotechnological inventions. Thereafter, Mathias worked as a legal trainee at UNIDROIT in Rome, and at the London office of Wilmer Hale.
Mathias regularly publishes in legal journals and commentaries, and has been a lecturer of intellectual property and copyright law at the Bucerius Law School, Hamburg for several years. Additionally, he frequently holds presentations on current IP developments. Mathias is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR), the Intellectual Trademark Association (INTA), the European Communities Trade Mark Association (ECTA), the European Association of Trade Mark Owners (Marques), the Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group (PTMG) and the German-Italian Lawyers Association. Mathias speaks German, English, French, and Italian.
